The Tears of a Clown

Now if there's a smile upon my face…

Happy Christmas 2012

Firstly, I’d just like to wish any reader, regular or just passing through  this corner of  the web a very

MERRY CHRISTMAS

Wishing peace and love to all.

Christmas Eve yesterday meant a visit to St. Barnabas Cathedral in Nottingham for carols and the Vigil Mass. As always it was a beautiful service with perhaps the essence of it being when the little children were called up to talk to the kindly  Father Geoffrey. The children provided a lot of fun for the congregation and deserved their warm round of applause! Pugin’s lovely Cathedral never lets me down and I always walk away contented and happy at visiting the place. My favourite building in Nottingham.

Later during the evening we called at the historic Bell Inn in Nottingham’s Old Market Square for a drink. There’s just something very reassuring about that ancient inn on such a night. Perhaps an appropriate venue, it once being part of a Carmelite Monastery hundreds of years ago.

Home time it was and a cosy viewing of A Christmas Carol before bedtime.

Today was our long-booked visit to The Woodlark Inn at Lambley village for Christmas lunch. Built in the 18th Century and originally entitled The Dumbles Tavern, we took our seats in the downstairs dining room after a welcoming glass of Champagne for an absolute festive treat. I started with Cropwell Bishop Stilton and cranberry stuffed mushrooms and after the turkey concluded with a good old Scottish recipe for dessert in a serving of cranachan. Delicious.

Home, and a nice open fire to warm ourselves by with family. Thinking also of one or two less fortunate than I at this time. One in particular – I hope you’re alright wherever you are my friend. I am looking for you.

God bless and Merry Christmas.
